ARGUMENT

The global health crisis, generated by Covid 19, has revealed the extremely fragile state of economic, financial, political and social systems. It has also confirmed the unsustainability of current development models, that are today incapable of satisfying the growing needs of a large part of the world's populations, and of reducing social inequalities and spatial disparities. 

The Covid 19 pandemic has raised awareness of the need to reinvent development models. The multiple effects of this unique crisis have reminded us of the importance of certain urgent challenges, such as the management of limited resources, the creation of decent jobs and the achievement of inclusive and sustainable growth. These effects, generating a new set of challenges for all countries of the world, will surely be felt for decades to come.

Africa has certainly made significant progress in several areas over the past 20 years. However, these advances cannot make us forget the worrying delay in governance systems and crucial areas such as education and health. More than ever, Africans need balanced and equitable development that guarantees their dignity. They have all the necessary assets to transform crises into opportunities, by developing an ecosystemic vision around innovative societal projects and with integrated strategies, taking advantage of digitalization and enhancing the potential of African youth, their energy and intelligence, for a resilient and united Africa.

Africa is being built and can no longer be managed on the basis of models based on aid, debt and the export of primary products. It must capitalize on the lessons of the Covid 19 crisis to reinvent its development models and initiate a genuine economic, social and ecological transition. African countries need models that value their tangible and intangible capital and their cultural diversity, that allow for the realization of key principles of well-being, cohesion, resource conservation, attractiveness and resilience, and that are capable of implementing innovative projects that can create jobs and wealth.

Aware of the current and future challenges facing African countries, the network Business Schools Morocco organizes the first edition of the International Multidisciplinary Dialogue under the theme " Better Manage Africa: towards resilient and supportive development models", from March 14 to 15, 2022 in Dakhla (Morocco).

This event will bring together academics, experts and practitioners, and representatives from politics, civil society, development agencies and donors to discuss development models in Africa.

This International Multidisciplinary Dialogue is intended to be a space for debate and the sharing of ideas, experiences and lessons learned, with a view to contributing to the work in progress on new development models and their relevance in Africa. The objective is also to formulate recommendations for concrete actions that can contribute to better management of African countries and guide the collective action of decision-makers and citizens, in order to lift African economies that have been further weakened by the Covid 19 crisis, and meet the expectations of today's populations, which have become more demanding. 

This international event is divided into a series of six thematic symposiums.  At the end of each of these symposia, participants adopt key messages that serve as a collective contribution of the Business Schools Morocco and its partners to the debate on Africa's development models.
